16th annual Love Your River Day

February marks the season for love, so why not show your love for our Santa Fe waterways? The Santa Fe Watershed Association (SFWA) is proud to be hosting their 16th annual Love Your River Day on Saturday, February 12, 2022. This community-wide river and arroyo clean-up event gives Santa Feans an outdoor, socially distanced, opportunity to give back to their community in a very impactful way. According to Keely Jackson Kennemore, Steward Coordinator. “Volunteers removed over 135 bags of trash and other debris from our precious waterways during the 2021 event. We’re pretty sure we can beat that total this year!”
SFWA is also inviting members of the community to send or bring in “Blue Heart” Valentines for the River. This is an opportunity to let your creativity flow. Use any medium and keep blue the predominant color. You can mail it or drop it off to the SFWA offices at 1412 Second Street, Suite 3, 87505). Valentine art will be displayed at Frenchy’s Field during the in-person event, taking place at the Frenchy’s Field (at the intersection of Osage and Agua Fria) from 10am- 12pm. Volunteers can pick up trash bags, enjoy coffee and snacks, and enjoy some art. Folks are then invited to clear litter from any reach of the river or arroyos that is convenient for them.
Volunteers can also choose to register online HERE and clean up any time/day that weekend. Free trash bags will be available for pick up near the Frenchy’s Field barn and the SFWA office (1413 Second Street, Suite 3- outside the doors) Fri-Sun. All registrants will be entered into a drawing to receive a gift basket for your favorite valentine- even if that’s yourself!
It is recommended to bring work gloves, sturdy shoes, water, sun protection, and a good sense of humor. SFWA requests that all volunteers fill out a 2022 SAFETY WAIVER prior to embarking on their clean-up adventure, and to also fill out a STEWARD REPORT to help us track our collective impact. The SFWA’s largest and longest running river cleanup of the year brings more volunteers than any other community cleanup they sponsor. Come join the fun!
